NewDialog
fallout-4 — Mods & Enhancements
NewDialog replaces the default 4-option dialogue wheel with a full-screen, classic Fallout-style list that shows the complete text of every response, eliminating the vague 'Sarcastic' or '[Intimidate]' labels that often lead to unintended choices. It also adds a detailed camera system that lets you see the NPC's face and body language more clearly, and exposes hidden dialogue flags (like 'Repeat' or 'Goodbye') so you can script or mod conversations more deeply. Players install it because it restores the text-heavy, informed decision-making of Fallout 3/New Vegas, and it's a must-have for roleplay-heavy playthroughs or modded quests with complex branching dialogue.

🎯 Tips & Tricks
Open the mod's MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) via ESC > Mod Config > NewDialog. Under 'List Options', set 'Max Lines Displayed' to 8 and 'Line Spacing' to 0.8. Then, under 'Camera', disable 'Dynamic Camera' if you want a static wide shot during conversations. This prevents long responses from being cut off and avoids motion sickness during rapid back-and-forth exchanges.
In the same MCM, go to 'Dialogue Text' > 'Override Sarcastic' and set it to 'Yes'. This makes the game display the real text of the sarcastic response (e.g., 'I'm the best thing that's happened to the Commonwealth, and you know it') instead of just '[Sarcastic]'. This is critical for mods like 'Sim Settlements 2' that have hidden sarcastic lines with different outcomes.
If you use iHUD, press 'H' to hide the vanilla compass/health bars before a dialogue starts, then press 'N' (default NewDialog hotkey) to open the dialogue list. If the list still overlaps your health bar, edit 'Fallout4Custom.ini' under '[Interface]' and add 'bShowCompanionInfo=0' to hide the companion's health display during conversations.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Conflict with 'SKK Fast Start New Game' or 'Start Me Up - Alternate Start' causing dialogue options to not appear for the first NPC after character creation.
Load NewDialog.esp AFTER both SKK and Start Me Up in your load order. In Vortex, set a 'Load After' rule for NewDialog.esp to 'StartMeUp.esp' and 'SKKFastStartNewGame.esp'. If the issue persists, open the console with '~' and type 'setstage NewDialogQuest 10' to manually initialize the mod's quest script.
Black screen or missing dialogue list when using 'Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)' with 'LooksMenu' or 'Looks Mirror'.
Update F4SE to the latest version (0.6.23 for game 1.10.163.0). Then, in your 'Fallout4Custom.ini' under '[Archive]', add 'bInvalidateOlderFiles=1' and 'sResourceDataDirsFinal='. Finally, ensure NewDialog.esp is NOT loaded before 'LooksMenu.esp' — place it directly after 'LooksMenu.esp' in your load order to avoid UI initialization conflicts.
