Mod Configuration Menu
fallout-4 — Mods & Enhancements
The Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) is a framework that adds a 'Mod Configuration' option to the game's Pause menu, allowing you to adjust settings for any mod that supports it, without using external tools or console commands. It works by reading INI files or script properties from each compatible mod, presenting them in a clean, scrollable UI. Players install it to easily tweak gameplay mods like damage multipliers, spawn rates, or UI toggles on the fly, and it's a near-essential dependency for many popular mods like 'Sim Settlements', 'Armor Smith Extended', and 'FallUI'.

🎯 Tips & Tricks
In-game, press Esc to open the Pause menu, then select 'Mod Configuration'. If you don't see it, ensure you have F4SE installed and that MCM is placed in the Data folder. On Xbox, use the pause button and scroll to 'Mod Configuration'. For quick access, you can also bind a hotkey via the MCM's own settings (if you have the 'MCM Hotkeys' addon).
Some mods (e.g., 'UCO' or 'Weapon Smith') have their own holotape menu. If you want them to appear in MCM, check if they have a compatibility patch on their mod page. For example, 'Armor Smith Extended' has an MCM patch that you must install separately to get in-game settings.
Open MCM, go to the mod's page, and look for a 'Reset' or 'Restore Defaults' button (usually at the bottom). If not, delete the mod's INI file in Data\F4SE\Plugins (e.g., 'SimSettlements.ini') and restart the game. This is safer than uninstalling/reinstalling the mod.
🔧 Troubleshooting
MCM menu is empty or missing after installing with 'FallUI - HUD' or 'HUDFramework'
This is a common conflict where these UI mods overwrite MCM's interface files. Ensure MCM is loaded AFTER them in your load order. In Vortex, set MCM's plugin to load last. If that fails, download the 'MCM - FallUI Patch' from the MCM page or the FallUI page. Also, check that you have the latest version of F4SE.
Settings not saving after changing them in MCM, especially with mods like 'Sim Settlements' or 'Workshop Framework'
This happens if the mod's INI file is read-only or if the mod uses a different save mechanism. Check the mod's INI in Data\F4SE\Plugins — right-click and ensure 'Read-only' is unchecked. If the mod uses MCM's own storage, try saving and exiting to the main menu, then reloading. For 'Sim Settlements', use its own 'City Manager' holotape to save settings.
